The situation in Libya has rapidly deteriorated - explosions and automatic weapons are being fired in the capital, Tripoli. According to local media and international agencies, the city is engulfed in fierce clashes between various armed groups.

According to RIA Novosti, Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, the leader of one of the capital's militias and head of the security service under the President's Council of Libya, was killed in the fighting.

The Libya Ministry of Internal Affairs has urged residents of Tripoli to stay home and not leave their districts. Mitiga International Airport has been temporarily closed, with all flights redirected to Missouri, Al Mayadeen reports.

According to the Libya Observer publication, fierce clashes are taking place between the capital and regional forces, which could indicate the beginning of a new round of civil war in the country.
