Elon Musk stated that his company SpaceX will carry out a rescue mission within four weeks to bring back two NASA astronauts stranded in space due to a malfunction in the Boeing Starliner spacecraft. According to the billionaire, the delay in their return is due not only to technical problems but also to political decisions made during the Biden administration.

Two NASA astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, were sent to the International Space Station (ISS) on June 5, 2024, aboard a new Starliner spacecraft for a week-long test flight. However, due to identified malfunctions, their return was postponed indefinitely, and NASA decided to return the Starliner to Earth unmanned.

US President Donald Trump appealed to Musk and his SpaceX company to organize a rescue operation, as the backup Crew Dragon spacecraft was also not ready for launch within the designated timeframe.

"We have successfully returned astronauts from orbit many times. I think we can carry out a rescue mission within four weeks, but we need to act carefully," Musk said in an interview with Fox News.

According to forecasts, astronauts may remain aboard the ISS until the end of March - the beginning of April 2025, extending their stay in space to 10 months instead of the planned week.
