"Engineers of the Future" Festival: Robotics, STEM, and UNDP's New Take on the Knowledge Economy
Technology
The major "Engineers of the Future" international festival took place in Tashkent, turning the capital into an epicenter of high technology and bold ideas. While young programmers tested autonomous sapper robots on obstacle courses, international experts discussed how to transform Uzbekistan's engineering potential into the primary engine of economic growth and an inclusive future.
Initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan, the "Engineers of the Future" festival was held in Tashkent, bringing together thousands of talented developers, students, and international experts. One of the most spectacular parts of the program was the "Sapper Robot" competition. Participants presented unique engineering solutions for the remote detection and neutralization of mines. In a specialized arena, machines controlled by complex algorithms and sensors performed real-time tasks searching for dangerous objects under various conditions. The competition proved that the youth are ready to create technologies that minimize risks to human life in conflict zones and emergencies.
The visit of Akiko Fujii, the UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, lent a special status to the forum. In her speech, she emphasized that developing a knowledge-based economy and STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) is a strategic priority for the country. According to Ms. Fujii, it is engineering ingenuity that acts as a catalyst for sustainable progress.
A distinct focus of the discussion was the support for inclusivity. The UNDP representative stressed the importance of investing in human capital and expanding opportunities for women in technological professions. The organization is already actively implementing initiatives to develop digital skills and support internships for women in the STEM sector. Moving forward, UNDP intends to continue its partnership with Uzbekistan to build a robust innovation ecosystem where a new generation of engineers can realize ambitious projects, contributing to global security and prosperity.
