Flights Canceled in Istanbul Due to Heavy Snowfall

According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, a state of emergency has been declared at Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen airports due to heavy snowfall from February 19 to 21, leading to the cancellation of several flights.

At Istanbul Airport, flight capacity has been reduced by 15% on February 19 and by 20% on Friday, February 21. The statement noted: “Considering that Turkish Airlines operates an average of 1,000 flights per day, approximately 150 flights are expected to be canceled on February 19 and around 200 on February 21. These numbers may vary depending on real-time weather conditions.”

According to the statement, no flight cancellations were necessary at Sabiha Gökçen Airport on February 19. However, flights scheduled for February 20, Thursday, were reassessed, and as a precautionary measure, 10% of flights were decided to be canceled.

In this regard, Pegasus Airlines has decided to cancel 46 flights, while Ajet will cancel 22 flights.

Additionally, after reviewing flights on February 21, Friday, a decision was made to cancel 15% of flights as a precaution. As a result, Pegasus will cancel 68 flights, while Ajet will cancel 34 flights.
