France joins the United Kingdom, Portugal, Canada, and Australia, which had earlier declared recognition of Palestinian statehood.

“We can no longer wait,” Macron said, stressing the urgency of a two-state solution. He condemned the October 7 attacks and added: “Nothing justifies the ongoing war.” He also called for the immediate release of the remaining hostages.

The Israeli delegation boycotted Macron’s speech, leaving their seats empty. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized France’s decision, calling it “a huge reward for terrorism.”

Earlier, Monaco, Luxembourg, Malta, and Belgium also recognized Palestine, further strengthening international diplomatic support for Palestinian statehood.
