France’s Voltalia Launches Uzbekistan’s First Agrovoltaic Project
Uzbekistan
The integration of advanced green technologies into Uzbekistan's agricultural sector has transitioned to the practical execution phase, unlocking fresh opportunities for the simultaneous utilization of land resources for both energy and crop cultivation needs. The French company Voltalia has officially launched the construction of a 500 kW solar power plant in the Tashkent district of the Tashkent region. The project is being developed under the innovative framework of agrovoltaics, which introduces a synergy between clean energy generation and traditional farming on the exact same plot of land.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on June 19, was attended by the leadership of line agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives from the Research Institute of Vegetables, Melon Crops and Potatoes, and Voltalia’s CEO Robert Klein. The stakeholders outlined the target phases for scaling this technology across other regions of the republic. The French developer has been steadily expanding its portfolio in Uzbekistan since 2022. Its active track record already includes the construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic plant in the Khorezm region and a 25-year power purchase agreement for a hybrid cluster signed in March 2025.
