German President Dismisses 14 Ministers

President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, dismissed the government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz during the first session of the new Bundestag.
According to the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, the president handed resignation documents to the chancellor and 14 ministers. The ceremony took place at the Bellevue Presidential Palace in central Berlin.
The president expressed his gratitude and praised their efforts during their tenure in the federal government.
"However, he asked Olaf Scholz and all 14 ministers to remain in office for a few more weeks as an interim government," the broadcaster reported. "This procedure is also stipulated by law. They will continue working until a new government is formed."
For reference, early parliamentary elections were held in Germany at the end of February. The Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), led by Friedrich Merz, won the election.
