A member of the Hamas political movement, Bassim Naim, told AFP that the truce between Hamas and Israel is at risk and could be disrupted. According to him, Israel is delaying the fulfillment of its commitments under the first phase of the six-week ceasefire agreement.

Hamas: Agreement with Israel at Risk
"The resumption of war is neither our desire nor our decision," said the political movement’s representative. He added that Hamas is still ready to hold indirect negotiations with Israel through Qatari mediation. These talks were supposed to begin on February 3, but the parties have yet to start them, Naim said.

The first phase of the agreement took effect on January 19 and is set to last 42 days. During this period, Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages in exchange for the release of approximately 1,900 prisoners.

In the second phase of the deal, both Hamas and Israel are to release all remaining hostages and begin discussions on a permanent end to the war. The third phase involves the exchange of the bodies of the deceased.

For reference, on February 8, Israel released 183 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for three Hamas hostages. Among those released was Iyad Abu Shkaydum, who had been sentenced to 18 life terms for organizing terrorist attacks in Israel.
