Donald Trump's team has shown interest in resuming contacts with Russia, said Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov. Moscow is ready for discussion, but only on an equal basis. There are no specific agreements yet, but the window of opportunity for normalizing relations is still opening.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reported that US President Donald Trump's team has expressed interest in resuming dialogue between Washington and Moscow. He noted that the Russian side is open to negotiations, including the discussion of resolving the conflict in Ukraine, but only in compliance with the principles of equality and mutual acceptance.
According to the diplomat, there is already a certain interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries, however, there are no specific schedules for contacts at the highest level.
Ryabkov emphasized that Russian-American relations are on the brink of collapse, but the White House's new administration is creating a small window of opportunity for dialogue to normalize. However, Moscow will not accept the language of ultimatums and one-sided demands.
At the same time, he noted that Russia is receiving contradictory signals from the US on the Ukrainian issue, but does not yet see real changes in their policy. The Kremlin, however, remains firm: a settlement is possible only if Ukraine abandons NATO, withdraws the Ukrainian Armed Forces from new Russian regions, demilitarizes the country, and cancels anti-Russian sanctions.
