The Hamas movement has issued a “positive” response to a U.S.-brokered proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to the group's official statement. However, Hamas insists further negotiations are needed to finalize key implementation details.

The group is especially focused on agreeing to a formula for prisoner exchange and securing a guarantee of humanitarian aid deliveries during the ceasefire. Hamas also demands that negotiations for a permanent truce continue beyond the 60-day pause.

According to The Times of Israel, Hamas opposes a clause in the draft agreement that would allow Israel to resume military action if talks are deemed insincere. The group believes such wording gives Prime Minister Netanyahu room to act unilaterally, as happened in March.

Israel, for its part, refuses to be legally bound to indefinite negotiations. Prime Minister Netanyahu has reiterated that military operations will not stop until Hamas is fully dismantled.
