Heavy rains left more than 66,000 residents without electricity in Uzbekistan

Disruptions were noted in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Bukhara, and Tashkent regions.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
As of 10:00, due to heavy rains and strong winds, 190 feeders with a capacity of 6 to 10 kV remain out of service nationwide, totaling 274 MW.
"The outages affected 66,750 consumers and small industrial enterprises in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Bukhara, and Tashkent regions were temporarily disconnected from the power supply. Currently, despite the adverse weather conditions, special teams are working to rectify all faults. We apologize to consumers for the inconvenience," the department's statement said.
It is worth noting that severe flooding in southern Brazil has resulted in the deaths of 150 people and the displacement of 600,000 from their homes. On 22 April, more than 83 thousand people were evacuated in the south of China as a result of severe flooding. In Dubai on 16 April, there was severe flooding due to heavy rains. Roads in the city turned into rivers, flooded houses, offices and shopping centres. As of 19 April, more than 17 thousand houses and 32 thousand household plots were flooded across Russia.
Experts warn that such natural disasters will occur more frequently due to anthropogenic climate change. As the temperature of the atmosphere increases, it is able to hold more moisture like a sponge and then "squeeze" it out in the form of heavy precipitation and floods.
