The Tashkent city administration has presented the Explanatory Dictionary of Tashkent Toponyms, a publication dedicated to the historical and modern place names of the capital.

The dictionary consists of two sections — Historical Tashkent and Modern Tashkent. It brings together both scholarly interpretations and popular explanations of the names of various urban landmarks.

The publication covers a wide range of toponyms, including canals and irrigation ditches, city gates, districts and mahallas, metro stations, cemeteries, and pilgrimage sites. The authors aim to preserve the historical memory and cultural heritage of Tashkent through its geographic names.
