Hungary Warns of Europe’s Shift Toward a ‘War Economy’
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that discussions in Europe about being ready for a possible war by 2030 and the increasing use of the term “war economy” suggest that Brussels is effectively shaping military strategies. According to him, these statements are already transforming the EU’s economic policies and are accompanied by official documents and declarations.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that a war between NATO and Russia could begin before 2029. Orbán called such remarks alarming and said they were steering Europe in a dangerous direction.

Against this backdrop, the Hungarian government announced a package of tax incentives for small businesses worth 80–90 billion forints. The package includes 11 measures aimed at reducing administrative burdens and supporting enterprises under what Orbán called the EU’s “harmful economic policy.”

Orbán reiterated his criticism of Brussels, warning that the European Union could collapse within two to three years if it continues on its current economic course. He argued that liberal governments must be replaced by “patriotic forces,” otherwise Europe will “fall apart before our eyes.”

He also stated that the 500-year era of Western dominance has ended, the global economic center is shifting Eastward, and the 21st century will become “the century of Eurasia.” According to Orbán, the liberal world order has collapsed, and countries capable of defending their own values will be the ones to benefit.
