India pauses purchases of Russian oil
Economy
India’s крупнейшие oil refiners have temporarily stopped new purchases of Russian crude for March–April shipments, Reuters reported, citing industry sources. The move is linked to New Delhi’s efforts to accelerate a trade agreement with the United States.
According to the report, state-run Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum, as well as private Reliance Industries, have stopped accepting offers for Russian oil loading in March and April. Some March cargoes, however, had been contracted earlier and will proceed as planned.
Sources say that most other Indian refiners have also suspended new purchases from Russia and may resume them only following government guidance.
The decision could affect India’s import structure, as the country has become one of the largest buyers of Russian crude in recent years amid sanctions and discounted prices.
