Hadi Goudarzi, counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in Russia, said that visa-free regime can be introduced first of all for scientists, professors who are employees of universities.
Iran proposed the Russian side to cancel tourist visas for scientists of the two countries. This was reported to TASS by counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in Russia Hadi Goudarzi.
"At the first stage, a visa-free [regime] for researchers and university professors can be launched so they can travel between Russia and Iran. The [relevant] proposal has already been submitted to our colleagues in Russia, and we are currently working on it. We will discuss this with our counterparts at the Russian Foreign Ministry," the diplomat said.
"We will try to make it possible for our scientists, colleagues who are engaged in scientific work exactly in the universities of Russia and Iran to travel freely. We mean academic travelling of scientists of the two countries," Goudarzi noted.
Visa-free group tours between Russia and Iran launched from 1 August 2023. The contract was concluded on 1 July 2021. Under it, citizens of the two countries may visit another country without visas for tourist purposes in groups of up to 50 people for a period of no more than 15 days.
