Israel and Hamas have agreed on the first stage of a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending hostilities in the Gaza Strip. The deal includes a prisoner exchange and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops.
According to the agreement, on October 13, Hamas will release all 48 hostages, including 20 alive, while Israel will begin withdrawing its forces within 72 hours and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Israel will also free 250 prisoners serving life sentences and around 1,700 Palestinian detainees.
U.S. President Donald Trump called the accord “a vital step toward lasting peace” and thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their mediation efforts. He is expected to visit the Middle East later this week to continue peace discussions.
