Israel has unilaterally revoked the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and resumed large-scale attacks.
"In accordance with the decision of the political leadership, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and ISA (Israel Security Agency) are currently carrying out large-scale strikes on targets in the Gaza Strip. Details will be announced later," the Israel Defense Forces stated on its Telegram channel on the night of March 18.
It was also announced that schools in Israeli cities bordering the Gaza Strip would remain closed for the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, a senior Hamas representative told Reuters that Israel had unilaterally broken the ceasefire agreement. The Islamist group called on the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt to place full responsibility for the violation of the agreement on Israel and urged the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to pass a resolution compelling Israel to stop the war.
Hamas representatives also stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government's decision to resume military operations could put the remaining hostages held by Hamas in an uncertain fate.
As a result of the renewed Israeli attacks, the death toll had reached at least 130 people at the time of publication. At least 300 people were injured across the region, with several children among the victims.
According to doctors and eyewitnesses cited by an Israeli publication, residential buildings in Deir al-Balah, as well as structures in Gaza City, Khan Yunis, and Rafah, were targeted.
For reference, the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect about two months ago, on January 19.
