It is prohibited for recipients of assistance to sell and purchase alcoholic beverages and tobacco products
Uzbekistan
According to the new government decisions, families receiving social payments and members of low-income families will be prohibited from using these funds to purchase alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. Also, entrepreneurs will be prohibited from accepting payments for these products. The rationale for this decision is that the main goal of social protection is to direct the attention and resources of supported families only to their daily needs.
In accordance with the legislation, members of families receiving social benefits through the social card, as well as those included in the register of poor families and recognized as such through the Unified Social Protection Information System over the past 12 months, will not be allowed to make such purchases. This decision was made with the aim of supporting the all-around development of families in need of social protection and safeguarding their interests.
The new changes in the legislation serve to ensure social justice and improve the quality of life and economic situation of low-income families.
