Italy seizes €780m from Airbnb after tax audit
Italian police have seized €779.5 million from short-term rental giant Airbnb for tax evasion.

Prosecutors said the company failed to collect the required 21 per cent tax on rental income from Italian landlords between 2017 and 2021.

The company's European headquarters in Ireland and three people who held senior positions during the period were reportedly seized.

Airbnb said it was "surprised and disappointed" by the decision, noting that it has been in talks with Italian tax authorities since June to resolve the matter.

"We are confident that we have acted in full compliance with the law and intend to exercise our rights with respect to this issue," the company said in a statement.
