Japan–Central Asia summit to be held in December
Japan intends to host the inaugural “Japan – Central Asia” summit in mid-December. The meeting was originally planned for summer 2024 in Kazakhstan but was cancelled due to the threat of a major earthquake in Japan, when Fumio Kishida was still in office.

After the postponement, Tokyo reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with the region. Japan expressed readiness to support the creation of a trade corridor connecting Central Asia with Europe, aimed at improving transport connectivity and supply chain resilience.

Japan has also shown interest in regional decarbonisation projects and plans to attract investors to support the economic development of Central Asian states.

The upcoming summit is expected to become an important step toward deepening strategic dialogue and expanding practical cooperation between Tokyo and the countries of the region.
