Large Drug Shipments Totaling 110 kg Seized in Uzbekistan

The State Security Service of Uzbekistan has disrupted two channels of drug smuggling from Tajikistan. According to the agency, the total weight of seized opium and methamphetamine amounted to almost 110 kilograms. As part of the operations, six people were detained, including the alleged organizer.
The State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan has released information about two major drug seizures, the total weight of which amounted to almost 110 kilograms. According to the investigation's version, the entire drug shipment was illegally brought into the territory of the republic from neighboring Tajikistan.
In the first case, two residents of the Bulungur district of the Samarkand region were detained for smuggling 79 kilograms 358 grams of opium, which they hid in a cache for subsequent sale. Later, based on the testimony of one of those involved, an additional 1 kilogram 953 grams of methamphetamine was discovered and seized.
In the second episode, border guards detained three men—two Uzbek citizens from the Surkhandarya region and one Tajik citizen—while attempting to bring 30 kilograms 357 grams of opium in backpacks. According to the SSS, they were supposed to deliver the drugs to a specified address for a monetary reward. During the investigation, a 39-year-old alleged organizer—a resident of the city of Denov—was also detained.
In connection with both incidents, criminal cases have been initiated under articles on smuggling and illicit drug trafficking. All suspects have been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
