On April 26, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, held a telephone conversation to discuss the further strengthening of friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

The implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan in August of last year was a central focus of the discussion.

It was noted with particular satisfaction that effective work is being carried out within the framework of the Year of Economic Cooperation. Since the beginning of the year, the volume of mutual trade has increased by 20%. Projects in the fields of automotive industry, textile production, electrical engineering, energy, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors have entered an active phase.

A rich joint cultural and humanitarian exchange program is also being implemented.

The importance of thorough preparations for the upcoming high-level summits planned for this year was emphasized, including the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, regional and rectors' forums, and the organization of cultural events.

The leaders also exchanged views on the regional agenda and reviewed plans for upcoming multilateral events, including those within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.
