Modern training opportunities created for healthcare professionals in the Aral Sea region

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Karakalpak Scientific and Practical Medical Academy.
High-quality healthcare depends above all on qualified professionals with modern knowledge and practical skills. In Karakalpakstan, particular attention is therefore being paid to the systematic advanced training of doctors and mid-level healthcare professionals. The new academy will serve as a key center for retraining healthcare personnel in line with international standards and using advanced technologies.
A Presidential Decree dated December 24, 2024, set the task of transforming the region’s medical institutions into a unified innovation cluster integrating science, education, and practice, with the involvement of the private sector.
To this end, a modern complex worth 154 billion soums has been built on a 4.6-hectare site, creating 80 new jobs.
The academy will enable 3,000 doctors and 6,800 mid-level medical and pharmaceutical professionals to undergo advanced training annually. In addition, around 100 clinical residents from the Aral Sea region will receive training at the academy each year.
All necessary conditions have been created for training and accommodation. A modern hotel with 72 beds is available for specialists arriving from remote areas.
The academy has 18 simulation rooms for developing practical skills. Training is provided in more than 50 areas, enabling specialists to acquire practical skills in over 100 types of medical procedures in line with international standards.
The institution is equipped with advanced medical technologies. In particular, it houses the Edge Medical surgical robot, the only one of its kind in Central Asia. The system can be used not only for simulation-based training but also to perform high-precision remote surgical procedures in real clinical settings.
The academy cooperates with renowned international medical centers and leading universities, including the University of Pittsburgh in the United States and the University of Freiburg in Germany. International training courses and joint research have been organized, while telemedicine and digital learning technologies have also been introduced.
