According to Mark Zuckerberg, more than 10 million people have registered accounts with Twitter's new competitor, Threads, just 7 hours after its launch.

The CEO, who uses the nickname "Zuck", made this statement by posting a flurry of messages and responses timed to coincide with the debut of the new app. "10 million subscribers in seven hours," Zuckerberg wrote with an emoji.

Earlier in the day, he reported that 2 million people had registered in Threads in the first two hours, and 5 million in the first four hours.

Threads is linked to Instagram, which, according to Meta, has about two billion monthly active users in October. The new app allows users to create Threads accounts under their Instagram user names, as well as communicate with people they follow on an image-based platform.

"Instagram's vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for texting, ideas and discussing what's on your mind," Zuckerberg said in a post on Instagram on Wednesday evening.

Threads' launch came at a time when Twitter — still the most widely used text-based social media app—made radical changes to its platforms, banning free users from viewing more than 800 tweets a day and revising its verification system.

For reference, Zuckerberg and Musk said they plan to fight in a cage, although neither of them confirmed the details of the alleged duel. According to the latest data, they are already discussing the details of the upcoming fight with the head of the UFC Dana White.
