Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

Iranian human rights activist and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The information was announced by her lawyer, Mostafa Nili, DW reported.
According to the court ruling, she received six years for “participating in gatherings and colluding to commit crimes” and an additional one and a half years for propaganda.
In addition to the prison term, Mohammadi will be banned from leaving the country for two years after her release and will be required to reside in the city of Khusf for the same period.
The activist was detained in December 2025 during a memorial ceremony for lawyer Khosrow Alikordi. In early February 2026, she went on a hunger strike. According to her lawyer, she was temporarily transferred to a hospital due to deteriorating health before being returned to custody.
In recent years, Mohammadi has been repeatedly arrested, and the total length of previous sentences against her exceeds 30 years.
In addition to the prison term, Mohammadi will be banned from leaving the country for two years after her release and will be required to reside in the city of Khusf for the same period.
