According to the Dunyo News Agency, the organization’s official recognition marks an important development for Seattle’s Uzbek diaspora. More than 3,000 people from Uzbekistan currently live in Washington State, with many working in technology, engineering, aviation, medicine and entrepreneurship.

Musa Kholmuradov, who has 15 years of experience in the U.S. public administration system, has been appointed chairman of the association.

The “Uzbek Mahalla” will focus on uniting compatriots, organizing national holidays and cultural events, and supporting Uzbek citizens who have recently arrived in the United States. Preserving the Uzbek language, national traditions and cultural values among younger generations will also be one of the organization’s key priorities.
