Oil and gas consumption in China is growing

Since the beginning of 2023, China has increased oil and gas imports by 12.4% and 7.6%, respectively. In particular, in July alone, 10.3 million tons of natural gas worth $4.9 billion were purchased from abroad.

According to data released on August 8 by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, China increased its oil and natural gas imports in January-July 2023 by 12.4% and 7.6%, respectively.

During the reporting period, China imported 325.752 million tons of oil, and purchases of crude oil from abroad at a price of $187.293 billion. This is 12.3 percent less than in the same period in 2022. And in July, China purchased 43.686 million tons of oil from abroad for the amount of $23.904 billion.

In January-July 2023, natural gas imports amounted to 66.876 million tons worth $36.9 billion. In July, China purchased 10.3 million tons of natural gas from abroad worth $4.9 billion.
