OpenAI is ready to buy Chrome back from Google

If Google is forced to sell Chrome browser due to an antitrust lawsuit, its new owner could become OpenAI. The company has already announced its readiness to consider the purchase - to create a "best product."

OpenAI is ready to buy Chrome back from Google
ChatGPT product manager Nick Terley told Bloomberg that OpenAI is interested in buying the Chrome browser if the US court mandates Google to sell it as part of the anti-monopoly process.

In 2024, the court recognized that Google had monopolized the search engine market. The Ministry of Justice demands radical measures, including the separation of Chrome from the parent company, the termination of exclusive contracts, and the opening of access to search data for competitors.

According to Terley, deeper integration of ChatGPT with the browser can significantly improve the user experience. Now OpenAI is already offering a ChatGPT extension for Chrome, but its own browser would give the company complete control over the interface and functionality.

Google, in turn, insists that such measures will harm users, deteriorating the quality of familiar services.

The potential deal between Google and OpenAI could be one of the most sensational events in the technology market in recent years.
