Pentagon cuts ties with Harvard

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the termination of its cooperation with Harvard University, ending military training programs, scholarships, and certification courses. The decision will take effect in the 2026–2027 academic year and may affect the training of future officers.
According to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the university no longer meets the needs of the armed forces. He said Harvard’s educational policies are overly focused on “woke ideology” and promote ideas that, in the Pentagon’s view, weaken the officer corps.
As part of the partnership, the Pentagon and the university had operated training programs, scholarships, and specialized courses for military personnel. These initiatives will now be discontinued, with the Defense Department expected to shift its cooperation to other educational institutions.
