Pierre de Gaulle, President of the Foundation for Peace and Friendship Between Peoples, sharply criticized the project of a federal European union, calling it a “great lie” and urging the restoration of national political autonomy to prevent further escalation of global tensions.

His remarks were delivered at the opening of the international symposium “BRICS–Europe,” held on 15 November in Sirius and bringing together policymakers, experts and public figures from BRICS nations and Europe.

In his opening address, Pierre de Gaulle declared that the European federal project had failed.

“Europe is sick. And the federal union of Europe is a failure and a great lie. At its head stands the European Commission with its libertarian ideology and its directives,” he said.

He argued that the federal Europe is “creating its own history, rejecting spirituality, faith and freedom of expression.”

De Gaulle also criticized Europe and NATO for “fueling the war in Ukraine.”

“We must unite our efforts and stand shoulder to shoulder so as not to inflame this situation, which could lead to a third world war,” he warned.

According to him, Europe will lose its global influence unless it restores “political autonomy and the freedom of nations in Europe.”

The BRICS–Europe symposium in Sirius gathers parliamentarians, public figures and academics to discuss opportunities for rapprochement between BRICS and European states on the international stage.

De Gaulle’s speech added momentum to the ongoing debate about the direction and viability of European integration.
