The Yeni Azerbaijan Party has nominated the candidacy of incumbent head of state Ilham Aliyev in the election.

Voting at the extraordinary presidential election is being held in Azerbaijan on 7 February. This is reported by "Anadolu".

It is noted that 6.5 thousand polling stations, including abroad, have been formed for participation in the voting of 6.5 million voters. About 800 foreign and 90 thousand local observers from different international organisations and countries are watching the elections. In addition to the local press, about 200 foreign journalists have been accredited.

Voting will end at 19:00 local time.

Seven candidates, including incumbent head of state Ilham Aliyev, have been registered to run in the presidential election.

In addition to incumbent head of state Ilham Aliyev, nominated by the Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP), Razi Nurullayev, chairman of the National Front Party, Fazil Mustafa, chairman of the Great Creation Party, Elshad Musayev, chairman of the Great Azerbaijan Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of the All Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, and independent candidates Zahid Oruch and Fuat Aliyev are running for the post of President.

Recall, the last time presidential elections in Azerbaijan, which are held every 7 years, were held on 11 April 2018. By a decree signed by Aliyev, the presidential election was postponed to an earlier date.
