Prime Minister Flees: Residence Overrun by Protesters
On Monday, thousands of people stormed the prime minister's residence, Ganobhaban. Currently, it is unclear who is leading the country. According to a BBC correspondent, the army chief is in talks with political party leaders and plans to hold a press conference soon.

At least 90 people were killed on Sunday in clashes between police and protesters demanding Sheikh Hasina's resignation. Among the dead were 13 police officers, killed during an attack on a police station in Sirajganj, 100 km north of the capital, Dhaka.

Student protests demanding the abolition of the civil service quota system began in July, resulting in over 280 deaths to date. In Dhaka, police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters, while the prime minister ordered the shutdown of mobile internet across the country.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has called on the Bangladesh government to end the violence. He also expressed concern over a mass march planned in Dhaka on Monday, warning of the risk of further escalation.
