Public transportation and entertainment venues in Tashkent will operate 24/7
Uzbekistan
The Strategic Reforms Agency has studied the prospects for developing the night economy in Uzbekistan based on the experiences of the UK, the USA, the UAE, and Australia.
In cities with developed night economies, annual revenues significantly benefit the economy. According to 2023 data, annual revenues from the night economy amounted to $44 billion in London, $10 billion in Bangkok, $35 billion in New York, $29 billion in Dubai, and $3.8 billion in Sydney.
Based on these observations, the Strategic Reforms Agency has developed the following proposals:
Establish a working group for the development of the night economy and tourism starting February 1, 2025;
Ensure the continuous operation of entertainment venues every Friday and Saturday by lifting nighttime operational restrictions;
Identify tourist potential areas in Tashkent and establish night activity zones there;
Transition public transportation in cities targeted for night economy development to a 24-hour schedule;
Develop an electronic platform called “Night Tashkent,” providing information on nighttime venues, public transport routes, and special discount offers;
Modernize designated areas, enhance street lighting, and create additional amenities for residents and tourists.
In light of the above, a draft Presidential Decree and a draft Law on reforms to develop the night economy and licensing procedures are expected to be developed.
