The government of Uzbekistan has adopted a new draft law aimed at improving the system for preventing iodine deficiency diseases among the population. This draft law grants the Ministry of Health a series of new powers, including the ability to regulate the composition, requirements, and sanitary-hygienic standards of iodine preparations and iodized food products.

One of the key aspects of the draft law is the monitoring of the quality, production, storage, transportation, and sale of iodized salt and food products. This is particularly important for the prevention of diseases such as endemic goiter, ensuring the effective implementation of preventive measures. Additionally, the law aims to ensure the population’s access to high-quality and safe table salt.

The draft law has been approved in the first reading by the deputies, and its future implementation is expected to reduce iodine deficiency-related issues and improve public health.
