Rare Rolex Platinum Daytona sells for $3.1 million
World
At the latest watch auction at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, one of the rarest pieces in the world of watchmaking art was sold – a Rolex Zenith Daytona with a platinum case and a unique turquoise dial made of mineral stone.
This specimen became the object of collectors' passion, sold for an astonishing amount of $3.1 million. Sotheby's auction house confirms that this Rolex is one of five Zenith specimens made by former Rolex CEO Patrick Heiniger in 1998. Four of them were given to important business partners, while this unique specimen remained with Heiniger.
This Rolex Platinum Daytona stands out among others not only for its rarity but also for its unique turquoise dial made of mineral stone. Until this moment, such material had not been used in the Daytona model, making this specimen even more attractive to collectors. Initially estimated by Sotheby’s in the range of $500,000 to $1,000,000, it exceeded all expectations and was sold for an amount several times higher than its pre-sale estimate.
The sale of this unique watch sparked excitement among collectors and connoisseurs of high horology. Its acquisition became not only an investment but also an opportunity to possess a part of the history of the watch world, which will forever remain in the memory and hearts of collectors.
