Cristiano Ronaldo has won another Guinness World Records title for the highest earnings for an athlete in 2023. According to estimates, the 38 year old football player earned $136 million over 12 months. Ronaldo's eternal rival, Lionel Messi came in second place and Kylian Mbappe in third.
According to a statement published on the Guinness website, portuguese soccer player has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest annual earnings for an athlete in 2023.
"For the first time since 2017 (and third time overall), Cristiano Ronaldo has topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid athletes, earning the Guinness World Records title for the highest annual earnings for an athlete in 2023," the statement said.
According to Forbes, Ronaldo's record earnings for the year are estimated at $136 million, of which $46 million is on-field earnings and $90 million is off-field (advertising contracts, sponsorship deals, business) earnings.
Argentine striker Lionel Messi came in second with $130 million, split evenly between $65 million in on-field earnings and $65 million off-field earnings. By comparison, French soccer player Kylian Mbappe's $100 million on-field earnings make up a significant portion of his total income of $120 million.
