Russian Tankers Damaged Submarine Cables

Finnish investigators suspect a Russian tanker of damaging the submarine cable between Finland and Estonia. Finnish authorities detained the Eagle S tanker, located in the Baltic Sea, on suspicion of damaging the Estlink2 cable on December 25.

After the submarine power line was severed, suspicious tracks were discovered on the seabed, investigator Sami Paila reported:
"The tracks extend for tens of kilometers."

These tracks suggest that the detained tanker may have dragged its anchor along the seabed, causing damage to the cable. Currently, the police are conducting a forensic investigation of the tanker, questioning the crew, and searching for the lost anchor at sea.

The Eagle S tanker operates under the Cook Islands flag and is believed by EU officials to be part of the "shadow Russian fleet."
