President’s assistant Saida Mirziyoyeva stated that in 2024, significant steps were taken towards joining the WTO and listed the achievements. "This year, we will continue at the same pace to become a full member of the organization," she said.
Uzbekistan made significant progress toward joining the World Trade Organization last year, and this year the work will continue at the same pace, according to President’s assistant Saida Mirziyoyeva.
"Last year, the WTO Working Group held two important meetings. This allowed us to begin preparing the main document for membership—the draft report of the Working Group. Additionally, bilateral negotiations were completed with 15 countries, including the US, China, and Japan. As a result, Uzbekistan signed 23 agreements.
In a short period, 20 important laws were adopted to enhance business transparency and competition.
This year, we will continue at the same pace to become a full member of the organization. This is expected to increase our country’s investment attractiveness and ensure the integration of Uzbek businesses into regional and global value chains.
The ultimate goal of joining the WTO and the ongoing reforms is, undoubtedly, to ensure the well-being of our people, create decent jobs, and transition to a more efficient economic management system," Mirziyoyeva wrote on her Telegram channel.
It is worth noting that one of the requirements for joining the World Trade Organization was met starting January 1. Exporters' transport cost compensations were stopped, and tax benefits on profit tax and turnover tax were canceled.
