SCO Strengthens Military Cooperation

Member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have agreed on plans for military cooperation for the coming years. The agreements were reached during a meeting of an expert working group held in Bishkek.

An очередное meeting of the expert working group under the Council of Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan.

Representatives of the defense ministries of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Iran, China, Pakistan and Russia took part in the discussions.

The participants focused on coordinating the parameters of military cooperation within the SCO for 2026–2027, as well as on practical aspects of interaction between the defense agencies of the member states.

Special attention was given to planning and jointly holding sports, intellectual, and scientific-innovation events. These formats are viewed as effective tools for strengthening trust, expanding professional contacts, and sharing experience among military personnel.

Following the meeting, the participants signed a protocol formalizing the agreements reached.

The discussions took place amid growing military engagement within the SCO. Earlier, servicemen from member states took part in the joint exercise “Sahand Anti-Terror — 2025,” and the leaders of SCO countries met at a summit in Tianjin, China.
