Sofia Blocks Military Aid to Kyiv

The new government of Bulgaria has officially announced the complete cessation of weapon supplies to Ukraine. Official Sofia stated that prolonging the "war of attrition" is pointless and urged the parties to immediately seek a peaceful resolution, sparking a major debate within the European Union.

Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov emphasized that the conflict cannot be resolved by force on the battlefield. In his view, further pumping of weapons only increases human casualties, especially since Kyiv does not face a shortage of armaments — the Ukrainian army is critically short of manpower instead. Stoyanov also noted that the European Union has lost its role as an impartial mediator, having openly taken a side.

This sharp turnaround in foreign policy follows the ascension of the cabinet led by Prime Minister Rumen Radev, head of the "Progressive Bulgaria" party. Radev, who has been dubbed the "Bulgarian Orbán" for his staunch sovereign stance, is convinced that Brussels' current "thoughtless" decisions regarding Ukraine ignore the consequences and are driving the entire Europe into a massive crisis.
