After the Manchester City vs. Chelsea match (3:1), Pep Guardiola was asked on Sky Sports about Abduqodir Husanov's debut and his mistake that led to a goal in the 3rd minute. The Spanish coach showed support for the young player.
"He doesn't speak English, so we can't communicate with Abduqodir directly yet. Maybe I'll need to learn Uzbek or Russian to talk to him. He’ll be fine. He’s only had one or two training sessions. I didn’t want to risk playing John Stones after his injury, especially considering the important Champions League match ahead.
Team unity is very important – we saw that today. Any player can make a mistake. Fans always support new players. He’s still very young and will definitely learn," said the Manchester City manager on Sky Sports.
The Spanish coach also commented on Husanov during a BBC interview.
"It’s not easy for him. Understand that he only had one training session before facing players like Jackson, Palmer, Madueke, and Sancho.
When we sign a young player, we know situations like this are part of the process. He will learn. Moments like these are the best lessons," Guardiola said about Abduqodir.
For reference, in this match, Abduqodir played until the 54th minute and was substituted by Guardiola due to a yellow card. City’s next match will be against Brugge in the final round of the Champions League group stage. The game is scheduled for January 29, and the team needs a victory to advance to the next stage.
