An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 was recorded off the coast of Peru, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

According to the service, the epicenter was located 250 km southeast of the city of Ica, which has a population of about 246,000. The focus was recorded at a depth of 10 km.

There have been no official reports of casualties or damage. Experts predict a tsunami up to three meters high.

On the same morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5 was recorded in Japan. According to the center, the earthquake occurred at 10:46 local time (06:46 UZT). The epicenter was located 87 km northeast of the town of Namie in Fukushima Prefecture, which has a population of about 21,800. The focus of the earthquake was at a depth of 34 km. There have been no reports of casualties or damage so far.

Earlier, it was reported that the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) informed about an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 in Venezuela. The natural disaster was recorded in the state of Sucre.
