Tashkent and Islamabad seal strategic partnership

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif signed a joint declaration following the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The document sets a course for expanding bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
In the presence of the leaders, the sides exchanged a package of intergovernmental and interagency agreements covering the economy, trade, industry, agriculture, digital technologies, culture, sports, environment, security, and other areas.
Among the key outcomes were agreements to establish an Uzbekistan–Pakistan Business Council and an Interregional Forum, expand the list of goods under the preferential trade agreement, and enhance cooperation in port services, mining, textiles, and pharmaceutical regulation.
The signed documents also provide for cooperation in digital technologies, science, culture, sports, anti-corruption efforts, counter-narcotics, as well as nuclear and radiation safety, environmental protection, and emergency management.
Special attention was given to humanitarian and interregional ties, including agreements between the cities of Termez and Peshawar, Samarkand and Islamabad, as well as between research institutes and universities of the two countries.
The new package of agreements opens additional opportunities to strengthen the strategic partnership, expand trade and economic ties, and implement joint projects between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
