Term of Office for Mahalla Chairpersons Extended to 5 Years

On February 12, amendments and additions were made to certain legislative acts under Law No. O‘RQ-1027.
According to the law, changes have been introduced to the "Law on Citizens' Self-Governance Bodies" and the "Law on the Election of Citizens' Assembly Chairpersons", including:
Extending the term of office for the chairperson of the citizens' assembly from 3 years to 5 years.
Electing chairpersons of citizens' assemblies for a 5-year term in cases where the position becomes vacant.
Additionally, the powers of commissions in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and the city of Tashkent, which assist in organizing and conducting elections for chairpersons of citizens' assemblies, have been clarified.
The law enters into force upon its official publication.
Until the law takes effect, currently elected chairpersons of citizens' assemblies will continue to serve until their original 3-year term expires.
