Terrorists planning to disrupt the presidential election detained in Iran
Iranian army servicemen detained terrorists who were preparing terrorist attacks during the Iranian presidential election even before the opening of polling stations. This was announced by Deputy Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic Majid Mirahmadi.

According to IRIB TV, before the elections, terrorists who were preparing terrorist attacks entered the country, were detained by the military, and the terrorist movement was completely defeated.

The deputy interior minister specified that the criminals had planned to organise terrorist operations to create an atmosphere of instability in the state and make people afraid to go to the ballot boxes.

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi noted that order at polling stations was ensured by 180,000 law enforcement officers.

On 28 June, the first round of the presidential election was held in Iran. Four candidates contested the election. None of them won more than 50 per cent of the vote, which would have ensured victory in the first round. In the second round, scheduled for 5 July, former Health Minister Massoud Pezeshkian (reformist, 42.5% of votes in the first round) and Saeed Jalili (conservative, 38.6% of votes in the first round), the representative of the spiritual leader of Iran in the Supreme National Security Council of the republic, were elected by a large margin.

A snap election was announced in the country after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi. A helicopter carrying eight people, including Raisi and Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian, crashed on the evening of 19 May in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. None of those on board survived.
