The Bill on Ensuring Citizens' Freedom of Conscience Has Been Adopted

Today, on February 11, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held its next session. During the meeting, the bill "On Ensuring Citizens' Freedom of Conscience in the Republic of Uzbekistan and Approving the Concept of State Policy in the Religious Sphere" was reviewed in its second reading.
This bill and the attached Concept were adopted in the first reading at the lower house session on January 31 of this year and were posted on the chamber's official website for public discussion until February 10.
During the public discussion process, more than 400 comments, proposals, and recommendations were received from citizens. Representatives of all religious denominations supported the Concept, emphasizing that its adoption would contribute to strengthening interfaith harmony, peace, and stability in the country.
During the preparation for the second reading, amendments and additions were introduced into the bill, focusing on establishing dialogue between different religious communities, strengthening interfaith harmony and unity, studying the cultural heritage of the Uzbek people related to religion, and supporting scientific and practical research on the religious and philosophical legacy of great thinkers and scholars recognized as prominent representatives of Islamic civilization. Special attention was also given to creating conditions for women's education, encouraging their active involvement in science, and increasing their socio-economic and political participation.
Following the discussions, the Concept and the bill for its approval were adopted and sent to the Senate.
