The draft aid to Ukraine passed its first vote in the US Senate
A new bill on providing military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan worth 95bn dollars has passed its first procedural vote in the US Senate. This is reported by DW.

It is reported that he got 67 votes, another 32 lawmakers were against. Now senators will have to discuss amendments to the document, after which it will be put to a final vote in the Senate.

A day earlier, Republicans had blocked a bill that would have provided not only funding for military aid to other nations, but also funds to strengthen U.S. borders to protect against illegal migration. The new bill, which eventually received so-called procedural support, was voted on in a stripped-down form - without a bipartisan agreement on border security.

The new aid package includes $60 billion to support Ukraine in its defence against a Russian military invasion, $14.1 billion to help Israel's security, $9.2 billion for humanitarian aid and $4.8 billion to support US partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

It is noted that even if the Senate passes the bill, the document must be approved by the House of Representatives, in which the majority of seats are occupied by Republicans. Since autumn 2023, this body has repeatedly refused to accept such agreements.
