The European Union is once again "revitalized" in supporting Ukraine
European Union leaders held a special summit in Brussels to discuss support for Ukraine and the strengthening of European defense. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that the main goal of today's meeting was to ensure continued support for Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed the importance of maintaining good relations with the United States.

Commenting on the proposal by French President Emmanuel Macron regarding nuclear deterrence, Scholz expressed skepticism about Europe's ability to rely solely on itself without U.S. support. He voiced concerns that expanding France's nuclear program might not enhance European security but instead lead to the U.S. disengaging further from European defense.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called today a turning point and stressed the need for decisive action to strengthen Europe's defense sector. He stated that Europe is prepared to confront Russia militarily, financially, and economically. Tusk asserted that Russia would lose this arms race, just as the Soviet Union did 40 years ago.

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden emphasized that European countries must be united in defense matters. According to him, even if some countries do not agree, others should move forward.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stated that it was finally time for European leaders to take concrete action and mobilize financial resources for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who attended the summit, expressed his gratitude to European leaders for their continued support since the beginning of the war. He stressed that Ukraine was not alone, and this was not just rhetoric but backed by real assistance.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted that the threat to Europe and Ukraine was extremely serious and stated that Europe was ready to implement a comprehensive plan to strengthen its armed forces.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the urgency of reinforcing European defense, stating that there was no time to waste. According to her, investing in defense and deterrence forces is currently the top priority.

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa also pointed out that lasting peace could only be achieved by strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities.

This summit is expected to mark a significant turning point in Europe's security strategy.
