Ancient Volcano Awakens in the Philippines

The ancient Kanlaon volcano, located on Negros Island in the Philippines, has become active once again. According to recent reports, the volcano has spewed ash up to a height of 4,000 meters. Following the eruption, a Level 3 alert was declared in the region, reports The Guardian.
Situated at an elevation of 2,465 meters above sea level, Kanlaon lies in the central part of Negros Island and is considered one of the oldest and most active volcanoes in the country. In December 2023, residents of nearby villages were evacuated due to increased volcanic activity.
Since then, the area has remained under a Level 3 alert, indicating a high probability of lava eruption. Experts warn that the alert level could change in the coming days — depending on how quickly magma rises toward the surface.
The Philippines is located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region known for its intense volcanic activity and frequent earthquakes.
