On January 18, the Israeli government, after prolonged negotiations, approved a significant agreement with Hamas. The agreement is aimed at ceasing fire in the Gaza Strip and releasing hostages. This was reported by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the agreement, the ceasefire and the exchange of hostages will begin tomorrow, January 19. The government meeting lasted eight hours. In Netanyahu's coalition government, 24 ministers voted in favor of the decision, while eight opposed it.

The Israeli Ministry of Justice announced on Saturday that 737 prisoners and detainees will be released as part of the first phase of the agreement.
“The government has approved the release of 737 prisoners currently held in the prison service system,” the ministry stated.

It is noteworthy that this meeting violated the rules of Shabbat, which only happens in exceptional cases. As reported by the Associated Press, this step was taken due to the critical importance of the issue.

Numerous negotiations were held to reach an agreement between Hamas and Israeli representatives. On January 15, the parties agreed on a 42-day ceasefire in the first stage and the release of some hostages. As part of the agreement, the Israeli government agreed to release 30 Palestinian prisoners for each civilian hostage and 50 for each soldier.

Israeli media published a preliminary list of 33 Palestinian prisoners expected to be released under the agreement. Among them are individuals believed to be alive. However, there is no official information about the exact health condition of the hostages.

The international community has played a significant role in facilitating this agreement. In particular, the United States and the European Union mediated efforts to accelerate the negotiations. Additionally, Netanyahu's government aims to reduce international pressure and curb violence in the region through this move.
